The Tanzania Fee Issue
On July 10, 2007, the Tanzanian government decided to make significant changes
to their trophy and concession fees. This issue has been of great concern
for SCI as many of its members hunt in Tanzania. Through SCI's South Africa
office, information has been coming back to this site to update hunters
as often as possible.
Throughout the fall of 2007, professional hunter associations and other interested parties, negotiated more reasonable fees for the upcoming 2008 season. In mid December 2007, the Tanzanian government and all of the interested parties reached an agreement and produced formal fees for both Trophy Fees and Concession Fees. Concession fees have increased roughly 50% and trophy fees have increased about 15% on average. For example, lion fees increased almost $5,000 while elephant fees have increased either $7,500, $12,000 or $20,000, depending on the size of the elephant taken.
SCI would like to thank the Tanzanian government, their Ministry of Environment and Tourism, and the multiple hunting associations that worked so hard for the past 6 months ensuring that hunting could continue in the wildlife rich country of Tanzania.
